Washington Black Bear Hunting
Guidied Black Bear hunts in the Seattle areas North Cascades

Our custom tailored Black Bear hunts are conducted for the most part in the foothills of the scenic and majestic North Cascade mountains, just a two hour drive north of Seattle, by either John Koenig of John's Guide Service or one of two hand selected area-locals born and raised here in Rockport, Washington.

On the morning of your hunt you will be met either by John or one of our other guides to discuss the plan of the day which may involve a combination of driving, stalking, tree-stand or ground-blind hunting in one of our pre-scouted hunting areas.

All of our local hunting areas are scouted at least once a week to ensure resident game species have not moved on and remain in the area.

Black Bear season begins in September just as our local wild blueberries begin to ripen in the mountain meadows in which we primarily target black bear.

It is not at all un-common to see more than one bear at a time roaming through a lush blueberry field from one of our hunting stations during a morning's hunt and our high-mountain berry fields generally hold plenty of bear up until late October even after most of the berries are gone. By then we've usually seen our first accumulations of snow at these higher elevations and move our hunts to lower elevations where bear can be found fattening themselves up just before the winter season.

Our Black Bears range in color from pure black, cinnamon, brown, to all black with a tuft of white on their chest.

NEW FOR 2008: Spring Bear Hunts! This is a special permit only hunt and all hunt applications must be turned in by March 13th... Successful applicants will be notified by March 31st.

We have and are always gathering information from reputable taxidermists in the area and can make arrangements for you there as well with a taxidermist John would highly recommend.

Whether you choose a single day hunt or a multiple day hunt, all lodging, food, tags and licenses will be your responsibility but we will be happy to help in making arrangements for your stay.

"Hey John had a great time, appreciate everything, including those up close and personnel experiences this Hawaiian boy has never experienced before. You know I thought I was getting good at spotting that bear sign, which just happened to be all around us, but for some reason what I thought was a freshly clawed up tree, turned out to be some damn moss. The nerve, playing tricks on those hawaiians. HaHa! Could not have asked for a better guide, even though I did not harvest a bear I had the greatest time, and saw some of the most beautiful scenery. Like you said John, Guide not God! Aloha a me Mahalo nui loa!!!!"
